Delete your Music Connect account
You can delete your account in the app at any time, or ask us to delete it by email. This page explains both, what is deleted, and the little we keep.
In the app
Profile → Settings (the gear) → Delete account → Continue → type DELETE → Delete my account.
Your account is deleted immediately and this cannot be undone. Your photos and videos are deleted at the same moment; if our storage or video provider is briefly unavailable, we keep retrying automatically until they are gone.
Without the app
Email musicconnectapp@yahoo.com from the address on your account with the subject “Delete my account”. We first check that the address is yours (we email it a short code to send back), then delete the account within 30 days and confirm by email.
What is deleted
- Your login: your email address, password and every signed-in session.
- Your profile: name, handle, photo, cover photo, bio, city and approximate location, social links, instruments and genres, date of birth, and your settings and notification preferences.
- Your photos and videos, including cover photos and the videos stored with our video provider (Mux).
- The text of your posts, comments and messages. They disappear for everyone; people you messaged see “Message deleted” in their conversation.
- Your likes, saved posts, reactions and post views, and your follows in both directions (people you follow and your followers).
- Gigs you posted and events you host: removed from view, upcoming events cancelled, and the street addresses of all your events deleted.
- Your gig applications: withdrawn, with your messages and notes deleted.
- Your “Going” RSVPs on other people’s events.
- Your notifications, the push notification tokens of your devices, and your blocks.
- Your membership of band or venue pages. A page you own passes to one of its co-hosts; if it has none, the page is hidden and held for review.
What we keep, and for how long
- An anonymous, hidden profile record (“Deleted account”) with every field cleared, so that other records pointing to it stay valid.
- Your messages as empty records with their text cleared, so the people you talked to still see “Message deleted” in their conversation.
- Empty, hidden placeholders of your posts, comments, gigs, events and applications — no text, photos, videos, tags or addresses — so other people’s threads and history stay intact.
- Reports you filed or that were filed about you, and the related moderation records: up to 90 days, for safety and to prevent abuse. They are then deleted automatically.
- Anything we are legally required to keep, for as long as the law requires.
- Copies in our database provider’s backups, until those backups expire.
Delete some of your data without deleting your account
You can remove things one at a time in the app:
- Posts, comments and gigs: use the ··· menu and choose Delete. They disappear for everyone straight away.
- Messages: press and hold a message you sent and choose Delete for everyone; its text is erased.
- Profile: Profile → Edit profile to change or remove your photo, cover photo, bio, city, social links, instruments and genres.
- Likes, follows and events: tap again to unlike or unfollow; on an event, tap Leave; a host can cancel an event.
- Notifications: Settings → Notifications turns each kind off; signing out stops notifications on that device.
A post, comment or gig you delete in the app is hidden from everyone, but its text and photos stay stored until you delete your account. To have us erase specific data completely — for example a deleted post’s text and photos, or your date of birth — email musicconnectapp@yahoo.com from the address on your account with the subject “Delete my data” and tell us what to erase. We check the address is yours, erase it within 30 days and confirm by email.
Questions about your data: see our Privacy Policy or email musicconnectapp@yahoo.com.
